Anti-data center group raises funds to fight planned projects
A southwest Missouri group called "Missouri & Neighbors Against Data Centers" has hired an environmental attorney to explore legal options to block data center projects. The group is actively fundraising to cover legal fees and is focused on planned data centers in Joplin and the Sarcoxie area. Organizers are optimistic about their chances of halting these developments.
A southwest Missouri activist group, "Missouri & Neighbors Against Data Centers," has escalated its efforts to oppose local data center developments by hiring an attorney specializing in environmental law and litigation. Susan Mitchell, the group's organizer, stated that the legal counsel will assist in reviewing project processes, obtaining relevant records, and identifying potential legal avenues to halt current and future data center proposals.
The group is specifically targeting a data center project planned for Wildwood Ranch in Joplin and another in the Sarcoxie area. To fund these efforts, "Missouri & Neighbors Against Data Centers" launched a GoFundMe campaign last month with a goal of $15,000 to cover legal fees and related expenses. As of September 4, they have raised $4,100. Mitchell expressed confidence in the group's ability to block the projects, asserting that "Nobody wants it."
Any funds remaining after the current campaigns will be directed towards assisting other nearby communities facing similar data center proposals, according to the organizers.
