Zoning reworks discussed by Champion, Warren Townships
Champion and Warren township trustees are discussing new zoning regulations for the former Copperweld Steel property, partly in response to community concerns about potential data center development. Residents largely favored preventing data centers, and Champion trustees may consider a data center moratorium at an upcoming meeting.
Trustees from Champion and Warren townships held a community meeting about rewriting zoning regulations for the 300-acre former Copperweld Steel property. The land could accommodate future development, but residents focused much of the discussion on concerns about a possible data center.
Champion Trustee Doug Emerine said neither township has been approached by a data center developer. The townships are working with legal teams to develop compatible regulations that could prevent unwanted development, although Emerine said Ohio law does not allow them to impose an outright ban on a specific type of development. Champion trustees may also consider a data center moratorium at a future meeting.
