Residents in Salix, Iowa, gathered to protest the construction of a proposed data center on 900 acres of annexed farmland. Over a dozen citizens stood outside City Hall, voicing concerns about the potential water and electricity costs, as well as light and noise pollution.

Salix resident Janet Yanek expressed fears that the data center would divide the community rather than bring people together. In response to the ongoing controversy since the proposal in May, the Salix City Council has scheduled a vote for August 12th on a moratorium, which would impose a temporary pause on the approval, permitting, or construction of new data center facilities.
