The Bossier City Council has approved the establishment of an Infrastructure Capital Fund to manage sales tax revenue generated by the ongoing construction of an Amazon data center. During a recent meeting, council members voted to allocate one-half percent of the city's sales tax collections to this fund over the next five years, or until the Amazon project's completion. The initiative is designed to ensure that a portion of the significant economic benefits from the development is preserved for future infrastructure and community improvements, rather than being absorbed into daily operational costs.

City officials, including Council President Chris Smith, emphasized the proactive nature of the fund, aiming to maximize the long-term impact of increased local sales tax collections. Projections indicate the fund could initially receive approximately $285,000 annually, potentially growing to $350,000, and accumulating over $2 million over time. This capital could then be utilized for leveraging grant opportunities, providing matching funds for state projects, or directly financing major improvements such as roadworks, drainage, and park enhancements, thereby avoiding additional municipal debt and improving quality of life for residents.
