The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission in Texas recently voted unanimously, 7-0, to recommend denying a new data center proposed by White Rose Partners. The decision came after significant public outcry, with the commission receiving over 400 emails from residents expressing concerns.
The proposed data center, planned for a 37-acre tract off FM 1385 in Denton County, drew criticism primarily due to its potential impact on local resources, specifically electricity and water consumption. Residents from Prosper and surrounding areas voiced strong opposition against the development.
White Rose Partners had presented a plan that included a closed-loop cooling system to conserve water and designs to minimize noise. The developer also stated that the owners would cover the costs for necessary upgrades to a power substation and claimed the project would create jobs and contribute to community growth. Despite these assurances, the commission sided with the residents.
The unanimous vote by the Planning and Zoning Commission is not the final decision. The proposed data center will now proceed to the full Prosper Town Council for a definitive vote on September 8th.
