Dade County commissioner calls for 90-day data center moratorium
Dade County Commissioner Melissa C. Bradford plans to propose a 90-day moratorium on new data center projects. The pause would allow the county to study impacts on water, electricity, infrastructure and emergency services before considering regulations and incentives.
Dade County Commissioner Melissa C. Bradford plans to introduce a 90-day pause on approvals for new data center projects during the county Board of Commissioners workshop on Nov. 5. The proposed moratorium would give officials time to assess potential effects on water supplies, electricity, roads, emergency services and other utilities.
Bradford also wants the county to hold public hearings and determine whether taxpayers or developers should fund infrastructure upgrades. She said the proposal is intended to guide responsible growth rather than oppose development, and residents are being encouraged to attend the commissioners’ meeting.
