Metro investigating data center impacts
Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell said Metro has preliminary findings from its investigation into the environmental, economic and community impacts of large-scale data centers. The findings are expected to be released within a few weeks, while a Metro Council moratorium on new data centers remains in effect through the end of the year.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell provided an update on Metro's review of the potential impacts of large-scale data centers on residents and communities. Executive Order 59 directed Metro departments to analyze environmental, economic and community effects associated with data center development.
The Metro Council has also established a moratorium on new data centers through the end of the year. O'Connell said the mayor's office has preliminary findings and expects to release them within several weeks, while noting that Tennessee officials have taken a different position on data center construction statewide. He said Nashville could ultimately adopt some of the strongest data center regulatory guidelines in the state.
