The Tyler Planning and Zoning Commission is set to discuss a proposed Bitcoin mining data center, described as a 12,500 MW facility, by developer Vulcan Core with Barrio as the final lessee. The project is planned for a site on West Erwin Street, not far from downtown Tyler.

According to KLTV 7's J.D. Conte, the proposal is on the agenda for an upcoming commission meeting. While Mitch Brown, a project manager for the developer, stated that efforts have been made to mitigate negative effects on the surrounding neighborhood, residents who spoke at a community meeting last month expressed overwhelming opposition to the project. Brown emphasized that equipment has been specifically engineered with fans and water-cooled systems to address potential issues.

The Tyler Planning and Zoning Commission will consider a special use permit for the facility at a meeting scheduled for 1:30 PM at City Hall.
