Davidson County commissioners to consider 4-month moratorium on data center development
Davidson County commissioners are considering a four-month moratorium on new data center development. The proposed pause would give county officials time to study power-grid capacity, water and wastewater availability, heat and noise impacts, and possible regulations before a public hearing and vote.
Davidson County commissioners are considering a four-month moratorium on data center development after rejecting a six-month moratorium proposal in August. The new proposal cites concerns about electrical-grid capacity, limited water supplies and wastewater capacity, localized heat, and noise pollution. It also says the county’s current zoning ordinance does not meaningfully regulate data center siting, construction, or operations.
During the proposed moratorium, county leaders would consult experts, review available land and utility capacity, and visit nearby data centers. In the final two months, they would consider potential zoning changes and other rules for regulating future development. Residents can comment at a public hearing during the Davidson County Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for Monday evening.
