City spokesperson Jack VanderToll stated the pause was to "reassess the current process and community engagement approach" to ensure proper involvement from stakeholders and the public.
Deputy City Manager Alyson Craig defended the group in a memo, asserting it was not meant to replace broader public engagement. The decision to exclude several key leaders and organizations from the focus group, who had participated in previous data center discussions, sparked widespread complaints. City staff now plans to reschedule meetings and rethink their approach to engaging residents and stakeholders.
