Nebraska Gov. A state task force is scheduled to establish guardrails for future data center development.

At an event in Fremont highlighting investments in Nebraska’s electric grid, Gov. Jim Pillen said current infrastructure can accommodate the state’s existing data center demand. Nebraska received nearly $14 million in 2025 for utility improvements, including stronger poles, additional power lines and modern substations.

Pillen said future data centers must protect water supplies, receive no tax incentives and provide community enhancements upfront. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lynne Walz said residents should have a role in approving projects and called for strict standards to prevent higher costs for families. A state task force is expected to meet in November to develop guardrails for future data centers.
