Over 100 Salix, Iowa residents gathered at a "data center awareness meeting" to discuss a potential data center development on 900 acres of annexed land, eyed by MidAmerican Energy. While some fear property value depreciation and loss of farmland, others support the project for its potential economic growth and job creation. More than 100 residents of Salix, Iowa, convened at Salix City Park to discuss a potential data center development on 900 acres of land recently annexed into the city. The proposed site is being considered by MidAmerican Energy.

At the "data center awareness meeting," organized by citizens, several current and former elected officials spoke against the project. Janet Yanak, a resident living near the annexed land, expressed concerns that a data center would "ruin any possible market value" of her home and remove "900 acres of prime Iowa farm ground out of production forever." However, other residents, including Chad Small, voiced support, highlighting the project's potential for economic growth and employment opportunities for the region, citing his experience working in data centers.

Salix city officials stated that the land would require rezoning before any data center construction could proceed, indicating that this would be a multi-month process.
