Data center proposal withdrawn
Townsite Solar 2 LLC has withdrawn its application for a data center project in Boulder City, Nevada. This decision follows a recommendation from the Boulder City Planning Commission against adding data centers to the city's Land Management Process list. The city council will still review the Planning Commission's recommendation.
Developer Townsite Solar 2 LLC (TS2) has withdrawn its application for a proposed data center project in Boulder City, Nevada. The project intended to utilize federally-owned and city-owned land near I-11 and US-95, initially optioned for solar power generation and battery energy storage.
TS2's withdrawal comes after the Boulder City Planning Commission voted 6-1 in May to recommend that the city council not approve the addition of data centers to the Land Management Process (LMP) list. The commission cited the need for more regulatory oversight regarding data center use.
City Manager Ned Thomas stated that the city had engaged in an open and transparent discussion with residents about the possibility of leasing city land for a data center. Despite the application's withdrawal, the city council is scheduled to receive the Planning Commission's recommendation and discuss the broader proposal at its July 14 meeting, marking the conclusion of the current process.
Prior to the withdrawal, TS2 had secured an amended Right-of-Way Grant from the Bureau of Land Management for a data center on an adjacent federal parcel, which is currently in a 30-day appeal period. The city noted that the data center project could have generated an estimated $2.3 million annually in revenues from lease value, property taxes, permit fees, and administrative charges, contributing to vital community services.
