The initial 91-day moratorium was enacted by the City Council on May 19, shortly after Governor Janet Mills vetoed a proposed statewide data center moratorium, which would have been the first of its kind in the nation.
Supporters of the local moratorium voiced concerns regarding the potential environmental impact and effects on nearby homes. Conversely, those in favor of data center development argued for the economic benefits, including job creation and significant revenue for the area.
