LaGrange Council Considers Special-Use Permit for Fairpoint Data Center
The LaGrange City Council is considering a special-use permit for a data center project by developer Fairpoint at Lafayette Logistics Park. The Planning Commission has recommended conditional approval, but the council seeks more information before scheduling a public hearing. No official action has been taken yet.
The LaGrange City Council is reviewing a special-use permit (SUP) application from developer Fairpoint for a proposed data center at Lafayette Logistics Park, located on Pegasus Parkway and Old Hutchinson Mill Road.
The project, which broke ground in November 2024 as a spec business park, involves approximately 134 acres zoned for industrial use. City Planner Mark Kostial noted that nearby parcels include both General Industrial and Affordable Mixed Use zoning within LaGrange, as well as Suburban Single-Family residential, Light Industrial, and Limited Commercial zoning in unincorporated Troup County.
The Planning Commission previously tabled the request before unanimously recommending approval on July 13, contingent on conditions such as a noise study, an air quality study, and a 50-foot planted buffer with a six-foot-high berm. However, during a recent work session, council members expressed a need for more details from the developer, who was not present.
Mayor Jim Arrington indicated that the council has many questions and may require more time before calling for a public hearing, which would need to occur by September 22 to allow for subsequent readings and votes. No official action was taken on the SUP application, with City Planner Kostial tasked to arrange for a Fairpoint representative to attend a future session.
