“It was overwhelmingly in support:” Delhi Township board unanimously passes resolution opposing data centers
The Delhi Charter Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution opposing a proposed data center on a 423-acre site. Residents and officials objected to the project, while Lighthouse Sustainability CEO Gary Dorris defended it and would not commit to abandoning the proposal. The township also has a 12-month data center moratorium in place.
Delhi Charter Township officials and residents strongly opposed a proposed large-scale data center on a 423-acre property after the Lansing Economic Area Partnership and Lighthouse Sustainability announced plans to explore the project. The township board unanimously adopted a resolution asking Lighthouse Sustainability to stop pursuing the development, and township officials ended their partnership with LEAP.
Township Manager Tracy Miller said public support for the resolution was overwhelming, while Lighthouse CEO Gary Dorris argued that the project would use less water than farming and would not increase peak electric-grid demand. Dorris declined to commit to halting the proposal and suggested the company could consider other actions, including potentially legal action. The township previously approved a 12-month moratorium on data center development and may extend it if state and federal rules do not change.
