Proposed data center pause draws packed crowd in Brighton
Brighton City Council voted to advance a one-year moratorium on data center development after a proposed 155-acre project drew a packed public meeting. The companies behind the eight-building project withdrew their application, but the moratorium still requires one additional vote to take effect.
Brighton residents filled City Hall and overflow areas to voice concerns about a proposed 155-acre data center campus with eight buildings near a neighborhood and elementary school. The proposal had prompted community members to circulate documents and question the project’s potential effects on nearby residents.
Mayor Pro Tem Peter Padilla announced during the meeting that the companies behind the application had withdrawn it. The Brighton City Council nevertheless voted to increase a proposed data center moratorium from six months to one year. The measure requires one more vote in the coming weeks before becoming official, and the city said no other data center proposals are currently under discussion.
