Floyd County Hits Pause on Data Centers, Paving Way for Public Hearings and New Regulations
The Floyd County Commission has enacted an 80-day moratorium on data center projects to allow for the development of new specific requirements. A proposed ordinance will be presented to the Planning Commission before coming to the full commission by late August.
The Floyd County Commission unanimously approved an 80-day moratorium on new data center projects to allow time for the development of a comprehensive ordinance. This new regulation would mandate specific requirements for future data center proposals, ensuring each project undergoes review by the commission after a public hearing. The proposed ordinance is slated for presentation to the Planning Commission for its recommendation and is anticipated to reach the full commission by late August.
The decision to enact the moratorium followed extensive discussion during a pre-meeting caucus. Separately, the commission also recognized Jim and Bonnie Moore for their decades of community service with NAMI Georgia, acknowledged updates on county facility projects including the Tax and Tag Offices, renovation work at the Law Enforcement Center, and the status of the Historic Courthouse. Additionally, the Floyd County Parks and Recreation Department provided updates on summer programming and the successful opening of the Farmers Market.
