Texas Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to conduct an audit of up to 300 data center projects. This statewide initiative follows the governor's new requirements for data centers connecting to the state's power grid.

According to the Texas Tribune, state grid operators informed the Public Utility Commission last Friday that these 300 projects collectively account for more than twice the ERCOT grid's peak demand record set just the previous month. The audit's primary goal is to ensure that data center developers comply with all established requirements before being granted connection to the state's electrical infrastructure, aiming to mitigate potential strain on the power grid.
