DeKalb County extends data center moratorium another 100 days
DeKalb County has extended its moratorium on new and expanding data centers in its unincorporated areas for another 100 days, until September 26. This extension allows county leaders and residents more time to review proposed regulations concerning the location, design, environmental impact, and operation of data centers.
The DeKalb County Commission has voted 5-2 to extend its moratorium on new data centers and the expansion of existing ones in the unincorporated parts of the county. The extension will keep the moratorium in effect through September 26, providing an additional 100 days for review.
This decision allows county leaders and residents more time to examine a final proposed ordinance that will govern data centers. The regulations under consideration will address factors such as the location, design, environmental impact, and operation of data centers within DeKalb County. Commissioner Nicole Massiah stated that the goal is to fully understand the potential impacts before making long-term decisions, emphasizing that the move is not against technology or economic development but for informed decision-making.
