Students from Towanda Jr./Sr. High School's environmental class presented their research on the environmental and economic impacts of data center developments in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The presentation, led by Deanna Lamphere-Johnson's 11th- and 12th-grade students, highlighted significant water consumption, effects on local wildlife, and economic factors including job creation, short-term economic booms, and increased electrical costs associated with these facilities.
As part of their research, students conducted online investigations and interviewed various stakeholders, including local residents, businesses, government and municipal officials, representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and members of the Bradford County Conservation District. This comprehensive approach allowed them to gather diverse perspectives, both positive and negative, regarding the ongoing data center development in the region.
