The Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority (CWSA) discussed proactively creating a zoning ordinance for potential data centers in Whitehall Township, despite no current proposals. Key concerns revolved around water consumption and discharge due to the CWSA's system capacity limitations. This initiative aims to establish regulations in anticipation of future data center developments.

During the Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority's (CWSA) June 18 meeting, General Manager Matt Harleman initiated a discussion regarding the possibility of data centers locating in Whitehall Township. Although no data center projects have been proposed yet, CWSA leadership expressed a desire to be proactive by developing a zoning ordinance specifically addressing data centers and digital infrastructure facilities.

The discussion, which included Whitehall Township Commissioner Ken Snyder, focused primarily on potential water consumption and discharge issues. Harleman noted that CWSA has room for an additional 1.2 million gallons a day in its system, but regulatory limits restrict the actual addition to 160,000 gallons. With two new car washes consuming 22,000 gallons, the remaining capacity stands at approximately 138,000 gallons, highlighting potential constraints for large-scale water users like data centers.

The board ultimately carried a motion to release a $7,800 letter of credit to developer George McCool Inc. for the 4601 Corey St. subdivision, as the maintenance period had expired and requested drawings were received.
