San Francisco became the first county in the Bay Area to impose a temporary moratorium on new data center construction. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an urgency ordinance establishing the 45-day pause, effective immediately.

The moratorium is intended to give city officials time to assess the environmental and community effects of data centers as they consider whether permanent development rules are needed.
