Salem joins list of cities halting data center development with moratorium

Salem councilors gave final approval to a 120-day moratorium on data center development Monday night, giving a new city task force more time to research how to regulate the facilities safely. The moratorium will expire on Jan. 19, unless councilors decide in the new year to extend it for roughly six more months. Council will consider extending the moratorium in January. While it is in effect, the city is prohibited from approving any data center development regardless of size, capacity, or purpose.
