Genesee County code enforcement for STAMP shifts to Town of Alabama
The Town of Batavia is ending its code enforcement agreement with the Town of Alabama, effective September 16, due to an increased workload within Batavia. This shift means the Town of Alabama will now handle code enforcement for the STAMP site, where a proposed 500-megawatt data center by STREAM (U.S. Data Center) is being considered.
The Batavia Town Board has voted to terminate its agreement to provide code enforcement services to the Town of Alabama for the WNY Science & Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park (STAMP) site. This decision, effective September 16, is attributed by Supervisor Greg Post to the Town of Batavia's growing workload and the need to prioritize its own community's needs, stating that the potential 500-megawatt data center at STAMP was not a factor.
Alabama Town Supervisor Rob Crossen confirmed the administrative change was anticipated, having been in communication with Post over the past year. The Town of Alabama is now in the process of finalizing a contract with its own code enforcement officer, who will serve as an hourly external contractor. This new officer will be responsible for future work at STAMP, including any related to the proposed STREAM (U.S. Data Center) project. This shift aligns with a broader trend of other Genesee County municipalities hiring their own code enforcement officers.
