Buffalo common council passes 2 year data center moratorium
The Buffalo Common Council passed a two-year moratorium on data center development in the city. During the moratorium, a nine-person task force will review city code and zoning rules and develop regulations intended to prevent data centers from disrupting residential neighborhoods.
The Buffalo Common Council approved a two-year moratorium on data center development following efforts by Council Member Joseph Gallombek. The pause is intended to give the city time to examine its code and zoning rules before allowing additional data center projects to move forward.
The council plans to establish a nine-person task force to study the issue and draft a new law governing data centers. Officials said the effort is designed to ensure future facilities do not enter residential neighborhoods or disrupt residents’ daily lives.
