Reading officials to review feedback on proposed data center ordinance

Reading, Pennsylvania's planning team is actively reviewing feedback regarding a proposed ordinance aimed at regulating data centers within the city. This follows a recent planning commission meeting where member Simon P. Wangolo announced a virtual meeting on August 5 to consolidate comments from the public and city officials.
The planning commission previously held a workshop to discuss the draft ordinance, which is slated for a vote by the Reading City Council within the next six months. Earlier this month, the City Council adopted a resolution to invoke a curative amendment process for its zoning ordinance, explicitly declaring that the existing ordinance is deficient in addressing data centers.
This resolution has provided the city a 180-day window to adopt new regulations and amend its zoning ordinance. Crucially, during this six-month period, no developers are permitted to submit applications for new data center projects.
