Rapid City residents have until Nov. 2 to weigh in on data center rules
Rapid City is seeking public feedback on proposed data center regulations covering setbacks, electricity use, water and sewer demand, noise, and vibration. The Planning Commission is scheduled to review the proposed amendments on Nov. 5 after the public comment period ends Nov. 2.
Rapid City residents can submit comments through Nov. 2 on proposed amendments regulating data centers. The rules would establish requirements for setbacks from residential areas, electricity consumption, water and sewer demand, noise, and vibration.
The proposal follows a December 2024 ordinance adopted by the Rapid City Common Council that defined data centers and allowed them in light- and heavy-industrial districts. The Rapid City Planning Commission is scheduled to review the amendments Nov. 5 after an Oct. 14 public open house and additional public input.
