Luzerne County officials hosted a public forum to discuss a proposed zoning ordinance amendment addressing data centers. Planning and Zoning Director Dan Reese said the county began drafting rules as existing regulations did not specifically cover data centers. The draft ordinance aims to lower decibel levels from data centers to 45dB 24/7. Resident Jeremy Benscoter expressed concerns about potential "infrasound" impacts. Despite some concerns, Reese said the draft ordinance has drawn overall positive feedback. The updated ordinance will be presented to the Planning Commission next week.
