Residents in Sahuarita, south of Tucson, are questioning Project Gravel, a proposed 160-acre data center that could be built on or near a former mine. Community concerns include potential health and safety impacts, as well as the project's water and energy use.
Residents gathered at Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Sahuarita to discuss Project Gravel, a proposed 160-acre data center. The development has prompted questions about how it could affect the community's health, safety, water resources and energy demand.
Resident Brianna Corinel said she was not opposed to new businesses but wanted more information about the unusually large project. Pastor Randy Mayor said he has hosted similar meetings since June and plans to organize a rally in October, indicating that community opposition and scrutiny are continuing.
