The Festus City Council held a public meeting at Festus High School on March 23, 2026, to discuss a proposed data center, drawing approximately 500 attendees. Residents voiced both support and opposition to the project. Opponents, including Chris Ganey, raised concerns about potential impacts on home values, a perceived lack of public vote, and process transparency, fearing an abandoned facility in the future. Mary Fakes also spoke against the proposal, and Michelle Watters and Dylan Watters highlighted the proximity of the proposed data center's entrance to their property. Dylan Watters, a Sheet Metal Workers Local 36 union member, held a sign opposing the project. Conversely, supporters of the data center were also present. Tim Brinker, Senior Director of Public Policy for Greater St. Louis Inc., spoke in favor of the proposal, receiving mixed reactions from the crowd. Dee Politte, living less than a mile from the proposed site, also listened to the council members. Following the meeting, some residents began signing recall petitions for Mayor Sam Richards and certain city council members, reflecting strong public sentiment regarding the project.
