County seeking feedback on proposed data center zoning code changes
Pima County Development Services is gathering public feedback on proposed changes to the Zoning Code pertaining to data centers. Concurrently, the Board of Supervisors is considering enacting a moratorium on data center development to provide adequate time for these new zoning regulations to be developed and finalized. The public can provide input via an online survey and an upcoming open house.
Pima County Development Services has initiated a public comment period for proposed revisions to the county's Zoning Code specifically governing data center developments. County Administrator Jan Lesher presented a draft of these changes to the Board of Supervisors, with the intent for them to be reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission on October 28.
In conjunction with these proposed zoning updates, the Board of Supervisors is deliberating a moratorium on new data center construction during its September 22 meeting. This temporary halt would provide sufficient time for the new zoning regulations to be fully developed and considered.
To facilitate public engagement, Development Services has launched an online survey soliciting opinions on critical aspects of the proposed code and preferred mitigation strategies for data centers. Additionally, an in-person open house is scheduled for September 28 at the Public Works Building, allowing residents to review the proposed changes and offer comments. An online forum is also planned for October.
