Commission reviews health report related to data center
The Nodaway County Health Center presented a report to the Nodaway County Commission, estimating hundreds of thousands of dollars in health-related costs from the proposed White Cloud Generating natural gas power plant, which would be co-located with a data center. The report focused on air pollution from the power plant and noise effects on livestock, topics frequently raised by residents concerned about the data center project. Despite the report, the highly interpretable data is not expected to significantly sway opinions on the divisive project.
The Nodaway County Commission reviewed a report from the Nodaway County Health Center concerning the proposed White Cloud Acres data center project in Maryville, Missouri.
Tom Patterson, administrator for the Health Center, presented his analysis which estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars in health-related costs during the first year of operation for the co-located 600-megawatt White Cloud Generating natural gas power plant. Patterson's report specifically addressed air pollution from the power plant and the impact of noise on livestock, both of which are common concerns among local residents regarding the data center development.
Despite the report's findings, the data is described as highly interpretable and unlikely to alter opinions on either side of the contentious project. Separately, a subsidiary of Scale Microgrids has filed a construction permit for the natural gas power plant with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
