AI data center protesters rally outside Sen. Chuck Schumer's home in Brooklyn
Demonstrators rallied outside Sen. Chuck Schumer’s home in Park Slope, Brooklyn, urging him to oppose proposed federal legislation that would streamline permitting for AI data center infrastructure. Protesters said election results show voters want tighter restrictions, while organizers remained open to discussions with lawmakers.
Activists gathered outside Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s home in Park Slope, Brooklyn, amid heavy NYPD security and barricades. The protesters staged a mock data center and urged Schumer to block a federal permitting bill they said would make it easier for companies to build the energy and infrastructure projects supporting AI data centers.
The group had planned to march to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’ office in downtown Brooklyn but canceled that portion after what organizers believed was outreach from his office. Reporter Frances Wang said the demonstrators appeared passionate rather than angry and were seeking dialogue while drawing attention to growing opposition to AI data center development and its power and infrastructure demands.
