Public hearing on data center regs set for Tuesday in Floyd County
The Floyd County Commission is preparing for a public hearing to adopt an ordinance that will regulate data centers, following a recommendation from the Rome-Floyd Planning Commission. This development comes after the county previously implemented an 80-day moratorium on new and expanded data center permits. The public hearing will allow for community feedback before a final decision is made on the proposed regulations.
The Floyd County Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on Tuesday to consider the adoption of a new ordinance aimed at regulating data centers. The Rome-Floyd Planning Commission has already recommended approval of these proposed regulations, but not before amending the draft, including changes related to daytime operational rules.
This move towards formal regulation follows an 80-day moratorium on new and expanded data center permits that was previously enacted. The moratorium was a result of discussions that took place in June, involving officials such as Commissioner Scotty Hancock. The upcoming public hearing offers a final opportunity for public comment before the Commission makes a decision on the ordinance.
