QTS is pushing back against a request from Bessemer officials to pause clearing, grading, excavation and other work on a proposed data center near Rock Mountain Lake. The company said development is proceeding under permits approved by the city and that it is taking measures to protect the surrounding environment, including erosion-control measures.

The request came from Bessemer attorney K. Mark Parnell as Mayor Louise Alexander’s new administration reviews city ordinances, development plans, permits and proceedings involving the project. The review follows questions about public notice, procedures and documentation, while nearby residents continue to express concerns about the development and the purchase of homes near the site.

QTS Chief External Affairs Officer Theo Yedinsky said the company has no plans to expand the campus and that any home purchases are voluntary. QTS also postponed a scheduled meeting with Alexander, saying it wanted more information about the city’s concerns before meeting, but said it remains willing to engage with the administration and community.
