SpaceXAI facing $6.1M in potential environmental penalties
SpaceXAI and its parent company, MZX Tech, face up to $6.1 million in potential civil penalties from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality over alleged land disturbance at three Southaven sites without stormwater permits. Separately, a federal judge allowed an NAACP lawsuit challenging permits for gas-fired turbines serving the sites to proceed.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued notices of violation to MZX Tech, the parent company of SpaceXAI, alleging that land was disturbed at three Southaven sites without required stormwater permits. The agency is seeking civil penalties of up to $25,000 per day, with potential exposure estimated at $6.1 million. MZX Tech said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it is cooperating with the agency and discussing a single agreed order.
The Southaven properties include the MACROHARDERR data center, a power plant and a recently acquired 51-acre site. Separately, the NAACP is suing over gas-fired turbines on Stanton Road, alleging violations of Clean Air Act permitting requirements. U.S. District Judge Debra Brown rejected the Justice Department's effort to end that case, ruling that the EPA does not have unilateral authority to dismiss a citizen lawsuit.
