PJM files modified plan addressing electricity shortfall
PJM filed a modified proposal with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to address a projected 6,800-megawatt generation shortfall in its region. The plan would allocate new capacity costs to large electricity users, including data centers, and establish a procurement process for generation resources and related contracts.
PJM Interconnection submitted a revised proposal to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission after the agency required changes to an earlier filing. The plan is intended to address a projected 6,800-megawatt generation shortfall and assign costs associated with new capacity to large loads, including data centers and other customers driving electricity demand.
The proposal calls for generation bids and contracts between large-load data centers and suppliers, with procurement scheduled to begin March 1 and results expected in May. It also outlines cost-allocation rules for utilities and large-load growth, as well as provisions covering reliability charges, peak-demand reductions and participation by municipal utilities and cooperatives.
