Planning Commission to hold data center hearing Oct. 6
The Monticello Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on October 6th regarding Monticello Tech LLC's proposed 3 million-square-foot data center. Residents can provide input on land-use applications, including rezoning, a conditional-use permit, and a preliminary plat for the 550-acre site. The Planning Commission will make recommendations to the City Council, which holds the final decision-making authority.
The Monticello Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing for October 6th to consider land-use applications for the proposed Monticello Tech data center development. The project, put forward by Monticello Tech LLC, envisions an approximately 3 million-square-foot technology campus on 550 acres south of 85th Street and east of Highway 25, encompassing property within Monticello Township but within the Monticello Orderly Annexation Area.
During the hearing, the Planning Commission will review three key applications: a request to rezone the property, a conditional-use permit under the city’s Data Center Planned Unit Development ordinance, and a preliminary plat. Public input is invited, with residents able to speak at the hearing or submit written comments by 4 p.m. on October 6th. Comments will be included in the official project record, addressing potential impacts related to land use, traffic, utilities, water use, noise, lighting, landscaping, and compatibility.
As an advisory body, the Planning Commission will forward its recommendations to the Monticello City Council, which retains final decision-making authority on the development. The city has extended its review period, requiring action on the applications by December 8th. The applications, initially submitted in July and revised in August, have now been deemed complete for detailed review.
