The Shelbyville Common Council approved the second reading of a voluntary annexation petition for over 400 acres on the city's east side, clearing the way for a proposed data center. The decision, made Monday evening in Breck Auditorium, was met with "outrage" and "public outcry" from residents who have protested the project for months.
Council members voted 4-2-1 to pass the petition, with Betsy Means-Davis and Thurman Adams casting dissenting votes and Denny Harold abstaining due to a conflict of interest, as he works for the same law firm that represented the petitioners, LORM LLC and Alisha Clay. The petitioners were represented by Eric Glasco of Stephenson Rife.
