Group says ‘No’ to data centers in county on national day of protest
A small group of protestors gathered in Chester County, South Carolina, to oppose data centers during the National Day of Protest. This protest followed the Chester County Council's recent enactment of a six-month moratorium on data center construction.
A small but dedicated group of protestors gathered in front of the Chester Wal-Mart in Chester County, South Carolina, on Saturday, participating in the National Day of Protest of Data Centers. Organized by Brittany Barnette, the protest included the Barnette family and retired nurse Gaye Jones, who expressed their strong desire for Chester County to not permit data centers within its borders. Children Leo and A.J. actively encouraged passing motorists to honk in support of their "No Data Centers" stance, receiving positive responses.
This demonstration comes as the Chester County Council recently passed the third reading of a six-month moratorium on data center construction. According to Jeremy Ward, the Chester Planning and Zoning Director, there are currently no data center projects slated for Chester County. The protestors hope their actions and the council's moratorium will prevent future data center developments in the area.
