Google announced a $1.5 billion expansion of its data center in Jackson County, Alabama, on June 15, expected to generate over 1,000 contract construction jobs and support hundreds of full-time positions upon completion. The company committed to covering 100 percent of the power costs for its campus, utilizing existing electrical infrastructure from the former TVA Widows Creek coal plant to integrate clean power into the grid.

This expansion follows a previous agreement with Kairos Power and TVA, announced August 18, 2025, to supply up to 50 megawatts of nuclear energy through a Generation IV reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with operations anticipated to commence in 2030, contributing to a goal of 500 megawatts of nuclear capacity by 2035.

Google also detailed local community investments, including a $2 million Energy Impact Fund in partnership with TVA and the Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama to provide weatherization and energy-efficiency services for schools and income-qualified households. The company additionally committed to replenishing more water than the data center consumes, supporting The Nature Conservancy's efforts in the Paint Rock River Watershed, and providing educational grants, including a $500,000 donation for STEM kits to Jackson County Schools.

Thomas Gamble, Google Jackson County Site Lead, emphasized the company's long-term vision of shared success and sustainable growth, stating that heavy investment in students, small businesses, and local organizations aims to build a foundation of opportunity for the region.
