Latest Data Centers Committing to Compliance with Texas Data Center Standards

These guidelines ensure data centers do not burden Texas families with costs or interfere with their quality of life. The Public Utilities Commission of Texas and ERCOT are tasked with auditing project information to ensure compliance before projects can proceed.
Governor Greg Abbott recently announced that several prominent data center companies, including Galaxy, Compass Datacenters, Montera Infrastructure, Amazon, Lancium, Cipher Digital, Stack Infrastructure, Anthropic, and Nightpeak Energy, have committed to complying with statewide standards he established for data center operations in Texas. The Governor emphasized that these guidelines are crucial for ensuring data centers protect the electric grid, conserve water, respect neighborhoods, and operate without imposing undue costs on Texas families or impacting their quality of life.
These comprehensive standards, introduced earlier in the summer, mandate that the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) scrutinize each data center project. This includes evaluating their impact on grid reliability, power transmission systems, water resources, and overall community effects. Furthermore, the PUCT and ERCOT are required to receive and audit all relevant project information before any data center development can proceed.
Governor Abbott stressed the importance of complete information for PUCT and ERCOT to make informed decisions regarding grid stability. He warned that any data center company failing to comply with ERCOT's audit process risks having its approval denied. Since these directives were issued, data centers across the state have either confirmed full compliance or opted to terminate their projects, underscoring the effectiveness of the protective guardrails implemented for Texas communities.
