The Harpersville Town Council in Alabama has enacted a six-month moratorium on data center development, following a unanimous vote at their August 3rd meeting. This temporary halt aims to provide officials with time to thoroughly assess the potential economic and infrastructural impacts of data centers on Alabama municipalities, particularly within Harpersville itself.

To facilitate this study, the town council, in conjunction with the planning and zoning board and the water board, will organize a series of informational sessions for the community. The inaugural session is scheduled for Monday, August 31st, at 6 p.m. at the Harpersville Community Center. These sessions will cover fundamental aspects of data centers, including their operations and the various types of facilities currently being constructed, to better inform future policy decisions.
