Buxton voters approved a temporary ban on data center development during a special meeting on Oct. 21. The moratorium lasts 180 days and applies retroactively to Aug. 12, preventing new applications while the town reviews its local rules.
Buxton joins Sanford, Westbrook and Gray among Southern Maine communities that have enacted similar temporary pauses. A separate statewide moratorium proposal did not become law after Gov. Janet Mills vetoed it.
