Hartford has begun exterior demolition of a long-vacant former data center at 150 Windsor St. near Dunkin’ Park, using $10 million in state funding to clear the site. Stamford-based RMS Cos. is considering developing a boutique hotel and up to 250 apartments there, though plans remain preliminary.

Hartford officials marked the start of exterior demolition at the abandoned five-story former data center next to Dunkin’ Park. The city is using $8 million from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s brownfield program and a $2 million Urban Act grant to remove the deteriorating structure and remediate the roughly three-acre property. Demolition is expected to take about 60 days, with the site cleared and graded by the first quarter of 2027.

The cleared property is slated for potential redevelopment by RMS Cos., whose founder and CEO Randy Salvatore said he continues to favor a project with a 120-room boutique hotel and as many as 250 apartments. Salvatore said the concept is preliminary and will be refined through discussions with architects, city officials and other stakeholders. Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and state and regional development officials described the demolition as another step in transforming the area around the ballpark and linking downtown Hartford with the North End.
