New York Assembly Republicans are asking the New York Power Authority to disclose electricity rates and discount values provided to data centers through the ReCharge New York program. The lawmakers say the information is needed to assess whether the public benefits justify the costs to ratepayers, while acknowledging that proprietary business information should remain protected.

New York Assembly Republicans, led by Minority Leader Ed Ra and Energy Committee ranking member Scott Gray, asked New York Power Authority President and CEO Justin Driscoll to release the electricity rates and discount values granted to data centers through the ReCharge New York program. The lawmakers said greater transparency is needed to determine whether the economic benefits associated with the allocations justify the costs to New York ratepayers.

The request does not allege that any data center violated program rules, identify recipients or claim that discounts have been canceled. It also comes separately from Gray's proposed Assembly bill A11419, which would require individualized utility agreements for very large electricity users and Public Service Commission approval, with customers responsible for incremental costs. The bill remains under consideration in the Assembly Energy Committee.
