Vermont organization launches campaign against data centers
Vermont Conservation Voters has launched the "Don't Data Center Vermont" campaign, aiming to educate residents about the environmental and cost impacts of large-scale data centers. This initiative follows Governor Phil Scott's veto of the Sustainable Data Center Deployment Act, which sought to regulate data center development for reliable electricity and to prevent negative impacts.
Vermont Conservation Voters has initiated a new campaign, "Don't Data Center Vermont," to inform state residents about the potential environmental and financial consequences of large-scale data center development.
Executive Director Dan Fingas emphasized that "the threat of data centers is real in Vermont." The campaign encourages Vermonters to actively oppose data center projects to safeguard their communities.
This advocacy effort comes after Governor Phil Scott recently vetoed the Sustainable Data Center Deployment Act during the last legislative session. The proposed act aimed to regulate data center "deployment" to ensure the state's electricity supply remains reliable and affordable for residents, while also mitigating any negative impacts from such developments.
