Short Pump residents urged the Henrico County Board of Supervisors to oppose three proposed data center campuses across the border in Eastern Goochland, including a 1,200-megawatt project near Henrico neighborhoods and schools. Residents cited health, air-quality, electricity and water concerns, while supervisors said Henrico has limited authority over Goochland’s land-use decisions and no intent to provide additional water for data centers.

Residents of Henrico’s Short Pump area asked the Henrico County Board of Supervisors to publicly oppose multiple data center proposals planned near the Goochland-Henrico border. Tract has applied to Goochland County for approval of a 900-megawatt campus, while Dominion Energy filings identify potential additional campuses of 200 megawatts and 1,200 megawatts. The largest proposal would require four electric substations and sit near Tuckahoe Creek, residential neighborhoods and local elementary schools.

Residents Rose Dare and Courtney Dare cited potential health and air-quality impacts from data centers and diesel generators and urged Henrico officials to take action before the projects are approved. State Del. May Nivar separately asked Goochland supervisors to reject the proposals. Henrico supervisor Misty Roundtree said the county does not intend to provide additional water to Goochland for data centers, but noted that existing contractual obligations limit Henrico’s options; the land-use decisions remain with Goochland County.
