Developer pulls plan for Boulder City data center
A developer has withdrawn its application for a proposed data center in Boulder City, Nevada, following strong public opposition. The Boulder City Planning Commission has recommended a pause on all data center projects, which the City Council is scheduled to vote on.
Townsite Solar 2, LLC has officially withdrawn its application for a proposed data center project in Boulder City, Nevada. The developer had initially leased over 88 acres of city-owned land near I-11 and U.S. 95 for solar power generation and battery energy storage. However, late last year, Townsite Solar 2 requested to instead use the land for a data center, a proposal that generated significant public opposition.
Following the strong community pushback, the Boulder City Planning Commission recommended a pause on all new data center projects for further study. The Boulder City Council is expected to vote on this proposed moratorium during its July 14th meeting. The withdrawal of the application indicates a significant shift in the project's status amidst the ongoing debate over data center development in Nevada communities.
